EU-PLF is proud to report that the SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) Drive, as WP5 “Innovation through High-Tech SMEs” is informally known, has received an overwhelming number of applications during its Innovation Day events.
The aim of Innovation Days is to recruit, select and motivate suitable candidate entrepreneurs to start a business in PLF, using our methodology. The selected candidate will get support in developing PLF products through the assistance of the SME Drive coaches.
The recruitment process had a somewhat slow start in Barcelona (ES), Milan (IT) and Wageningen (NL), as was reported in the SME Drive’s paper during the EC-PLF conference in Leuven in September 2013. However, this was surpassed by the great number of interests from new teams from the UK, Denmark and Italy that arose during the Innovation Day in Leuven.
The SME Drive currently has a list of teams from seven European countries that are interested in participating in EU-PLF. The selection of ten promising new teams willing to spin off a company with the assistance of the coaches, the consortium’s network, and EU-PLF’s blueprint be finalized in the next internal SME Drive meeting on Nov 4th. Coaching of the ten lucky teams will start immediately for those who have not already begun.
In preparation of the next phase, the SME Drive is currently setting up an independent funding board of professional Business Angels that will execute the competition between ten selected teams for the 100,000€ start-up funding.
